Causa Digital: pro bono digital support for health charities in Australia
Medical Marketing has worked with health clinics and nothing else since 2014. Causa Digital is how we give some of that work back. Each year we take on the digital side of a few health charities and patient organisations and do it at no cost: we build or fix the website, set up the Google Business Profile properly and, if the charity is eligible, apply for Google Ad Grants and run the account.
In Spain the programme has five places a year. In 2026 we are opening two places for Australian charities, starting on the Gold Coast and in South East Queensland.
Why we do it
Small health charities are usually run by a handful of people, often families living with the condition the charity exists for. They know their community far better than any agency. What they rarely have is time for search results, donation pages and advertising accounts, and the free help available to registered charities goes unused because nobody has the hours to set it up and keep it running.
We do this work every day for clinics. Doing it well for a charity takes weeks, which is why the number of places is small.
What Causa Digital includes
The website, built or reviewed
If there is no website, we build one and look after it. If there is one, we review it and make the changes it needs: clearer pages about the condition and the support you offer, a donation page that works on a phone, a volunteer or membership form, and the technical basics so Google can find and read every page. For charities endorsed as Deductible Gift Recipients, the donation page should say plainly that gifts of $2 or more are tax deductible. It is a small line that many donors look for.
Your Google Business Profile, in order
A verified, complete profile with the right address, phone number, hours and website, so the families, volunteers and donors who search for you land on the correct details.
Google Ad Grants, from application to running campaigns
Google offers free search advertising to eligible charities through Google for Nonprofits. We check whether you qualify, handle the application and build campaigns that bring in the people you want to reach: families looking for support, volunteers, donors and people who want to learn about the condition.
Staying compliant
Google sets minimum quality requirements for Ad Grants accounts and suspends accounts that fall below them. We check the account every month so that does not happen. If your account is already active or has been suspended, we review it and work to get it back on track.
Visibility in search and in AI assistants
We make sure the website answers the questions people ask about your cause, so it can appear in Google results and in the answers of AI assistants.
A short monthly report
Every month you receive a short report on what changed and what came of it, written so you can use it with your board and in your annual report.
How it works
- Tell us about your charity. Who you are, the cause you work for and where you stand online: website, Google Business Profile and social media.
- We review it and put our proposal in writing. Within a few days you receive what we would do, with no obligation, and we check your eligibility for Google for Nonprofits.
- We do the work. We fix the website and the profile, apply for the programmes and launch the campaigns. The first 90 days are hands-on.
- We keep it running. After that, light monthly maintenance and the monthly report, so the progress is not lost.
Who can apply
- Health charities, patient organisations and support groups for people living with a condition and their families.
- Registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), which is also the starting point for Google for Nonprofits in Australia.
- One contact person who can give us about two hours a month to decide and review.
- A website and a Google Business Profile, or the wish to have them.
- Willing to share the story once the work is done, with your approval on every piece.
Google's rules leave government bodies, hospitals and healthcare providers out of Google for Nonprofits. If you are not sure which side you fall on, write to us anyway: checking costs nothing.
What we ask in return
There is no invoice, now or later. So there are no surprises, these are the three things we ask for before we start:
- That you name Medical Marketing as a supporter on your website and in your annual report, with a link.
- That we can tell the story of the work, once you have approved it.
- That you introduce us to other charities, if it fits.
We also sign a simple agreement with you covering how we handle any personal information on your website and in your accounts.
How to apply
Email info@medicalmarketing.digital with the name of your charity, your website if you have one and two or three lines about where you would like help. The two Australian places for 2026 are being allocated now. Charities we cannot take this year go on the list for 2027.
You can read more about us on the team page, or see how we work with Australian clinics on the Medical Marketing in Australia page.
Frequently asked questions
Is Causa Digital really free?
Yes. Charities in the programme do not pay for the website work, the Google Business Profile, the Ad Grants management or the monthly report, now or later. In return we ask to be named as a supporter with a link, to tell the story with your approval and for introductions to other charities if it fits.
Do we need to be registered with the ACNC?
Registration with the ACNC is the starting point for Google for Nonprofits in Australia, so it matters for Google Ad Grants. If you are not registered yet, tell us anyway and we will look at what we can do with the website and the Google Business Profile.
How much time does it take from our team?
About two hours a month from one contact person, to answer questions, approve changes and review the monthly report. We do the rest.
We already have Google Ad Grants, or our account was suspended. Can you help?
Yes. We review the account, fix what keeps it below Google's requirements and manage it from then on. A suspended account can usually be reinstated once those issues are resolved.
How many places are there?
Two places for Australian charities in 2026, starting on the Gold Coast and in South East Queensland. The programme in Spain has five places a year. Charities we cannot take this year go on the list for 2027.
